    SUPWW SPWEED *>w<* (7x speed boost)

    Hello! First off, this is some really good stuff

    Especially from a Rust beginner! I wouldn't have expected a beginner to even know what a BufWriter is, so well done.

    That being said, I have about 3 years of experience in the language.

    Benchmarks

    Of course, I can't just say that my app is faster without proving myself first, so I took some benchmarks using Rust's built-in benchmarking tool. This was that benchmark.

    #[cfg(test)]
    mod tests {
        extern crate test;

        #[bench]
        fn uwu_bench(b: &mut test::Bencher) {
            let uwuify = super::UwUify::new(
                Some(include_str!("test.txt").to_string()),
                None,
                None,
                false,
                1.0,
                0.05,
                0.125,
                0.225,
                false,
            );
            b.iter(|| uwuify.uwuify());
        }
    }

    All this test does, is it UwUifies a small excerpt from the complete works of Shakespeare (can be found in src/test.txt) over and over again, and times each iteration in nanoseconds. After that, those times are averaged out to give us our benchmark result. These were the times I recorded (top one is mine)

    test tests::uwu_bench ... bench:       6,847 ns/iter (+/- 28)
    test tests::uwu_bench ... bench:      43,879 ns/iter (+/- 704)

    My implementation seems to be around 7x faster than the original implementation of this app. Also, when I fed it that CSV of the Tokyo Olympics tweets, your implementation takes ~7 seconds to UwUify the text, while my implementation takes around ~1 second. Don't feel bad though, I was a beginner once too. It takes a lot of knowledge of Rust to get the speeds I've achieved here. And it wasn't easy either.

    How'd you do it doc?

    That's a very long thing to write, so I'll do that tommorow

  • Fix incorrect help message

    Fix incorrect help message

    The Problem

    Currently, the help message for faces is

    -f, --faces <VALUE> The modifier for uwu faces e.g hello -> hewwo [default: 0.05]

    However, the example given does not demonstrate what that modifier actually does and instead represents the words modifier.

    The Fix

    The above help message should be updated to

    -f, --faces <VALUE> The modifier for uwu faces e.g hello -> (^-^*)/ hewwo [default: 0.05]

  • Bump indicatif from 0.16.2 to 0.17.2

    Bump indicatif from 0.16.2 to 0.17.2

    Bumps indicatif from 0.16.2 to 0.17.2.

    Release notes

    Sourced from indicatif's releases.

    0.17.2

    A small maintenance release which makes indicatif more portable and fixes some minor regressions.

    • Use portable-atomic to fix build on some 32-bit platforms (#484, thanks to @messense)
    • Implement multi-line progress message support (#443, thanks to @happenslol)
    • Reset estimator of progress rate on backwards movement (#483, thanks to @rlee287)
    • Fix percent initial value when there is no length (#491, thanks to @devmatteini)
    • Bumped the MSRV to 1.56 (#482)

    On behalf of @djc and @chris-laplante, thanks to all contributors!

    0.17.1

    2.5 months after the large 0.17 release, we (finally) have a release that addresses most of the regressions found in 0.17. There is ongoing work on changes in the estimation algorithm, tracked in #394, which has regressed for some users.

    Note that we made some technically semver-breaking change of adding a missing Sync bound to the ProgressTracker bounds (#471). We're assuming that most users don't (yet) have custom ProgressTracker impls, and that users who do have probably built one that is Sync anyway.

    Fixed regressions

    • Fixed unicode-width feature spelling (#456)
    • Only tick if the ticker is disabled (#458)
    • Rework MultiProgress zombie line handling (#460)
    • Fix incorrect link in documentation (#469, thanks to @Jedsek)
    • Take a reference for ProgressBar::style() (#476, thanks to @andrewchambers)

    Other changes

    Thanks from @djc and @chris-laplante to all contributors!

    0.17.0

    indicatif is one of the most popular terminal progress bar libraries in the Rust ecosystem. More than a year after the 0.16.0 release, we're happy to finally release 0.17. In the past year, the indicatif team has grown to two maintainers, since @chris-laplante joined @djc as a maintainer. We also now have a Discord channel.

    Apart from many small API additions and fixes, particular effort has gone into reducing the overhead for reporting progress. To this end, we've removed some of the explicit rate limiting APIs in favor of a single refresh rate in the ProgressDrawTarget. We now set a rate limit by default (50ms) that should drastically reduce overhead for most applications while being more than enough for most terminal applications. Additionally, position updates are now synchronized by using atomic integer APIs instead of a mutex. In a basic test the simplest possible progress bar is about 95x faster on 0.17.0 compared to 0.16.2.

    We've made many changes to the way MultiProgress collections work. You no longer need to explicitly join() the MultiProgress, there are more ways to insert new progress bars into the collection, and many correctness improvements have been made, in part to more effort having gone into testing the crate.

    Additionally, we've reduced our dependency footprint, removing lazy_static and regex from our required dependencies.

  • Create tagged release from GitHub UI

    Create tagged release from GitHub UI

    Motivation

    I want to be able to release a new version of the binary solely from GitHub Actions itself instead of having to clone the repository and create/push the tag itself.

    Description

    The existing deploy.yml should be modified to take in a workflow_dispatch event. More information can be found here

    This workflow_dispatch event should take in a parameter called tag which prompts the user to enter a tag name.

    Once the above is configured, a conditional job should be created in the same file (before all the other jobs!) which only runs if the workflow was manually triggered (see if condition down below in the acceptance criteria). The job itself should pull down the latest changes of the repository and create a new tag based on the input tag name, override the default github.ref environment variable with the new tag name and then continue to execute the other steps.

    Note You might not be able to override the default github.ref environment variable, in that case, please comment down below and we can think of some other workarounds.

    An article that describes some of the syntax is listed here which may help you!

    Acceptance Criteria

    • [ ] .github/workflows/deploy.yml has been modified to include on_workflow_dispatch and take in tag name as a parameter
    • [ ] A job is created to create the tag and ran conditionally if: ${{ $GITHUB_EVENT_NAME == 'workflow_dispatch' }}

  • Update linkify requirement from 0.8.0 to 0.9.0

    Updates the requirements on linkify to permit the latest version.

    Release notes

    Sourced from linkify's releases.

    0.9.0

    Changed

    • More strict parsing of hostname (authority) part of URLs. Applies to emails, plain domains URLs (e.g. example.com/foo) and URLs with schemes where a host is expected (e.g. https).

      This fixes a few problems that have been reported over time, namely:

      • https://www.example..com is no longer parsed as an URL (#41)
      • [email protected] is no longer parsed as an email address (#29)
      • https://*.example.org is no longer parsed as an URL (#38)

      It's a tricky change and hopefully this solves some problems while not introducing too many new ones. If anything unexpectedly changed for you, please let us know!

    [0.8.1] - 2022-04-14

    Changed

    • Skip parsing very short strings for URLs as a performance optimization

    [0.8.0] - 2021-11-26

    Added

    • New option url_must_have_scheme on LinkFinder that can be set to false to allow URLs without scheme/protocol such as example.com. Note that there is no allowlist for top-level domains, if you want that you will have to implement it yourself.

    Changed

    • Bump MSRV (minimum supported Rust version) to 1.46

    [0.7.0] - 2021-05-18

    Changed

    • URLs that have a quote character like ' or " before them will stop when that quote character is encountered, e.g. in "https://example.org/",", the URL will not include any quotes. Before, it would run until the end because the quotes after the slash were an even number. (#20)
    • Bump MSRV (minimum supported Rust version) to 1.41

    [0.6.0] - 2021-04-09

    Changed

    • Stop URLs when encountering |. Consistent with RFC and will hopefully not cause problems with real URLs.

    [0.5.0] - 2021-02-13

    Changed

    • Treat * as a delimiter like . or ,, which means they can be part of an URL but not at the end.
