Overview

Chromatic

Fine-tune your instruments with Chromatic. Chromatic detects the frequency of audio input, converts it to a musical note with the correct semitone and octave, and displays the cents error. Cents are displayed on an analog gauge to make tuning more visually intuitive. Requires PulseAudio or PipeWire.

Flatpak

You can install stable builds of Chromatic from Flathub by using this command:

I created a .po-file for a german translation and updated the LINGUAS-file.

One thing that's missing, but would probably require major changes, is the support for different systems to name the notes, like the german/central-european-system (whatever it is called) with its "H"-note or the solfège-system

Add mobile layouts

Currently, Chromatic doesn't allow the window to become narrow enough for a phone display in portrait orientation. Also, setting the window tall and narrow results in the gauge extending off the sides of the window. From the GNOME HIG:

Apps that are appropriate for a phone form factor should scale down to 360×294px.

Use tabular numbers for frequency and cents displays

Currently, the digits in the frequency and cent labels are proportional width, which causes the labels to jump around a bit as the input sound changes. Changing the font settings in CSS to use tabular numerals in the labels would fix this.

Gauge resizing

With certain fonts, including the default GNOME font, note labels that are taller than normal, such as sharp notes (#) will change the height of the gauge widget and cause it to resize

Needle behaving erratic.

I like your app and the design is good but it falls a bit flat in use since the needle is to sensitive and erratic and changes too much as the string sustain fades away. A good tuner to explore would be https://tuner-online.com/ or the fender tuner android app. I play classical guitar and Bach demands accurate tuning. Love the app and wish you luck because I want to see it succede.
