Thoughts on gif vs something like asciinema?

asciinema would be great, although I'm not sure it can be embedded in playable form in a readme. I've seen asciinema videos linked from readmes, but you have to click on them and go to another page to play them. It's might be possible to convert an asciinema to a gif though.
