    Comparison:

    • Their impl: https://github.com/rust-vmm/vm-virtio
      • Better abstraction: splitting protocols with device-specific operations.
      • Easy to add new devices (like network, console, etc.): they can reuse lots of code, like virt-queue.
      • They have enough tests and a good community.
    • My impl: https://github.com/imkiva/valheim/blob/main/valheim-core/src/device/virtio.rs
      • Just a proof-of-concept implementation because I only care about the Linux booting rather than devices when valheim is at its fast-prototyping stage.
      • No tests are available thus no HA is expected, with protocols and device-specific operations mixed all together, which is also bad for others to learn from it.
      • Hard to add new devices, because protocols and device-specific operations mixed all together.

    I decided to use their implementation so #17 and #14 can be easily fixed by adding a virtio-net and a virtio-console device.
